Stroll down memory lane this Fourth of July with Wisconsin’s historical newspaper coverage in BadgerLink resources.
Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers provides full text of daily and weekly Wisconsin newspapers from 2005 to 90 days ago, plus newspapers from the 1800s and 1900s. In this resource, I first selected Search Historical Newspapers, and searched for “bicentennial celebration” in the date range of July 1-31, 1976. I discovered front pages of Black River Falls Banner Journal and Random Lake’s The Sounder, capturing the parades and events of the time.
Newspapers.com Library Edition - World Collection is a historical newspapers archive from the 1700s - 2000s containing thousands of well-known regional, state, and small local newspapers in the United States and other countries. In this resource, I searched “Fourth of July” and clicked on the state of Wisconsin to narrow my search results to just our state’s newspaper titles. I discovered Fourth of July Flashes segment from a 1904 edition of Darlington Democrat, and a Fourth of July ballad in an 1858 edition of North Western Times of Viroqua.
