In a move to enhance privacy and security standards for all customers, EBSCO is requiring the use of strong passwords for all accounts using User ID/Password for authentication. Passwords will now have expiration dates and may be as soon as October 1, 2018, and as late as December 31, 2019. Read more about this change on the EBSCO support site.
So how does this affect BadgerLink?
Within the BadgerLink authentication system, we use your account’s EBSCO User ID and Password in order to provide access to our licensed EBSCO databases. If your Password changes and we haven’t made the update on our end, your users will temporarily lose access to those resources. Once Passwords are set, they will be valid for 365 days. This does not affect how you normally access our resources, nor will patrons, students, or home users be required to do anything!
As a Library or School Administrator what should I do?
Every EBSCO account has an administrative contact, and this person will receive an email from EBSCO regarding your Password expiration. Please contact BadgerLink at https://badgerlink.dpi.wi.gov/contact-us with the date (and time if possible) that it will change. If you are a Public Library, contact your System first as we are partnering with them to coordinate this process.
Just added - step-by-step instructions for library, school, or other statewide organizations.
While we anticipate some accounts may temporarily lose access for longer than desired, we hope that by coordinating this change together, we can reduce any disruption in service.
Thank you for helping with this new EBSCO security requirement. In the meantime let us know if you have any questions!
