Your teacher may require a certain number of resources that are in print, like a magazine, newspaper, or a book.

But how are you supposed to find a few sentences of information in a 400+-page reference book that you can't take home?! There are a couple tricks that will help you quickly locate information in a long book.

  • Table of Contents: in the front of the book there is a section that lists chapters and/or articles with page numbers.

  • Index:  in the back of most books there is a section called an index that has keywords or themes alphabetized with the page number so you can refer directly to the information on a page.

  • Glossary: in the back of some books there is a section called a glossary that defines keywords.

If you are having a lot of trouble finding items in the catalog, consult a librarian!
