Now Available: BadgerLink Genealogy Tutorial

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Are you curious about BadgerLink’s genealogy resources, but not sure where to start? Try the new interactive genealogy tutorial from the BadgerLink team! Read a description and watch a short video on 3 BadgerLink genealogy resources (HeritageQuest Online, Access NewspaperARCHIVE, and Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers), then test your knowledge!

If you’re looking for more BadgerLink genealogy help, check out our Genealogy Class series, going on each Thursday through October 20th. Representatives from the Wisconsin Historical Society, Access NewspaperARCHIVE, Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers, and HeritageQuest Online will be joining us for 20-minute webinar sessions on how to use each resource. All sessions are recorded, and will be made available on this page shortly after the session is over. You can find more information, including how to join the sessions, on that page.

See the full list of genealogy resources available through BadgerLink here, and please contact the BadgerLink team with any questions!

BadgerLink Featured in ConnectEd!

Wednesday, August 3, 2016

BadgerLink is managed by the Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning team within the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Even though we are a part of DPI, the BadgerLink team still feels honored to be featured in DPI-ConnectEd Stories, which shares education news like success stories from Wisconsin schools, DPI updates, student opportunities, and more.

We caught the attention of folks in the main DPI office with our June Library of the Month, which featured Crivitz School District Libraries. Crivitiz School District Libraries may be in a rural location, but they heavily use BadgerLink as part of their curriculum to support innovative technology policies.

Announcing Info Sheets & Training Survey

Friday, May 13, 2016

This Spring, outreach librarian, Gail Murray, and training librarian, Kara Ripley, were busy spreading the word about BadgerLink by attending and presenting at many conferences. The feedback that we received indicated a need for more short and easy-to-digest training materials for educators, librarians, and the general public, so that they can more easily teach and use our resources.

In response to this need, we put together what we’re calling “Info Sheets” which give a quick overview of the navigation of each resource and also provide information about full-text availability, how to access a permalink, if there is an automatic citation feature, and copyright information for the resource.

The Info Sheets are now live on the BadgerLink website. You can find the Info Sheets on the Training page and on each applicable More Information page (for example, the Access NewspaperARCHIVE More Information page which you can get to by clicking on the link on the list of resources; see image below).

On each Find Resources page, click on the link in the table under "Description & More Information"

Ultimately, we want to be sure BadgerLink’s training materials help you!

Please take this short survey to let us know what you think of some of our training changes.
